Geographical Association Quiz
Last week Miss Bramham took a team of young geographers to Horbury Academy for the Geographical Association Quiz. A fantastic time was had by all 3 super-star students involved. Those students were Amy and James in Year 7, with Abi in Year 9 heading up the team of 3. The quiz was definitely challenging and some of the questions would have given Miss Bramham, Miss Hall and Mr Stead a run for their money. However, our students coped marvellously and they had a fabulous competitive spirit and worked well together as a team. One round of the quiz included guessing famous land marks as they were gradually revealed (think 'Catch Phrase!) and our students were the fastest at guessing one of the land-marks (the Taj Mahal!). Another round included a speed round where the leader of the quiz verbally asked each team of students 10 questions and they had to answer as quickly as possible or 'pass' the question. Our students managed to correctly answer some of these questions under pressure! Other rounds related to OS Map Skills and UK counties. The students not only made us in the Geography department very proud, but our academy as a whole proud. Especially considering ONCE AGAIN they were the only students who had solely 'swotted up' (for want of a better phrase!) for the quiz in their own time after school at the Humanities Club. We were a little disheartened not to win, but a great time was still had by all and our students demonstrated maturity and resilience in the face of defeat. The quiz was won by Wakefield Girls High School.
