A farmer in Malawi has to sell 90Kgs of rice to make enough money to send a child to school for a year costing approximately £250!
The WCA Student Voice decided to try to sell the same amount of rice and provide the funds for a child in Malawi to go to school and learn to read.
The academy has a focus on reading and wanted to help children in another part of the world who don’t have the opportunities that students have at Wakefield City Academy.
The challenge is to raise as much money as we can from selling the rice in the academy. We have recipes and Miss Ruddock is supporting this by buying some of the rice to use in Food Technology lessons.
The price for the rice is between £2 and £3 a kilo, although smaller quantities are available on request.
