Trip to Sheffield for Language Learners
Before Christmas we took all the new and relatively new EAL students to the cinema in Sheffield. We went on the train, a first for some and walked across the square past the fountains and the water wall to the cinema. The cinema was again a first for some.
We saw a pre-release showing of 'The Eagle Huntress'. Aishol-pan, a 13-year-old girl, trains to become the first female in 12 generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter and rises to the pinnacle of a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. While there are many old Kazakh eagle hunters who vehemently reject the idea of any female taking part in their ancient tradition, Aisholpan's father, Nurgaiv, believes that a girl can do anything a boy can, as long as she's determined.
The film was fantastic and all were in awe of the wide open space of the Kazakh plains and the skill of Aishol-pan.
A great morning was had by all.
